ChatterBox is a chatroom which can only be accessed by upgraded internet members and paper-based members who have an online account.

Members Online
 
When you click to enter ChatterBox, the number of members shown as being online are the total number of  members that are somewhere on the site - not necessarily in the ChatterBox area.  However, only full members have access to ChatterBox, and only their names will be displayed (which may be less than the total number showing as online).  If you'd like to chat to them - send them an Invitation to Chat.
 
Public Chat
 
When you enter ChatterBox, you can chat to everyone who is currently logged in to the chatroom.  Start by typing a message introducing yourself.
 
Private Chat

If you want to have a private conversation with another member, click on the “Chat” link, which is shown in brackets by the side of the member you wish to contact privately. Once clicked, a popup window will appear in which you can type your private message to that member. Once sent, the message will appear in the main ChatterBox window but will contain the message “Client A whispered to Client B”. Although this message is in the main chat window, it can only be viewed by the member sending the message and the member it is being sent to.

Change Rooms

You can change rooms by clicking on the room name in the “Rooms” panel on the bottom right hand side of the main ChatterBox window. This will place you in an area with a different topic eg. Move out of Dating into Buddies so you can chat to make friends, rather than chat to potential dating partners.

Check your Inbox regularly when you're on the site for Invitations to Chat that have been sent to you.  You will see a moving message across the top of the screen on your personal Home Page when you have a new message waiting in your InBox.  Alternatively, you can send messages to individual members asking them to meet you in ChatterBox at a pre-arranged time - or call them direct on their CallSafe number!

Please be aware that ChatterBox is closely monitored - so please abide by the rules that are displayed when entering this area.

This list gives you an overview of available commands.

  • <b> and </b> to surround bold text.
  • <i> and </i> to surround italic text.
  • <u> and </u> to surround underlined text.
  • <date> inserts current date.
  • <time> inserts current time.
  • <datetime> inserts current date and time.
Some symbols are used to indicate users logging in, out, etc.
  • A new indicates a user has logged in.
  • A notify indicates a user has logged out.
Hint:
  • Type an empty message to refresh chat window immediately.
